Abstract

|
Heterotopic pancreas is not rare and found in about 1 to 2 percent of routine auto-psy. The most common locations of the heterotopic pancreatic tissue are in the duo-denum, stomach, jejunum, and Meckel¢¥s diverticulum. Situated mostly in the subm-ucosa but sometimes intramuscularly or subserosally, it appears grossly as a single, pale yellow or white nodule, and is easily mistaken for a neoplasm. Local excision in general is sufficient therapy in heterotopic pancreas.
The authors report a case of heterotopic pancreas arising from the first portion of the duodenum, discovered incidently in Billroth II type subtotal gastrectomy performed for bleeding gastric ulcer in a 58 years old male which was treated successfully. The medical literature on the subject was also briefly reviewed.
